Bill…That’s Just Awful!

Former President Bill Clinton was recently quoted as saying “If you believe we can rise together, if you believe we’ve finally come to the point where we can put the awful legacy of the last eight years behind us and the seven years before that where we were practicing trickle-down economics, then you should vote for her,” . You can also watch it for yourself below:

Soon after, his aide explained that Clinton was referring to the GOP obstructionism that President Obama had to endure during his two terms. UH Huh 😐 .  SOooooooo, when you said “awful legacy” you were talking about the legacy of Congress?  Yeah, RIIIiiiight. Things are not adding up😕

Here is why. First, Clinton used the adjective “awful” to describe the legacy for a position where someone who was in it 7 years before practiced “trickle-down economics”.  HMMMmmmm, that sounds like former President George W. Bush to me.  It definitely doesn’t sound like he’s talking about Congress (House and Senate) which is comprised of both Republicans and Democrats.  Just exactly how did the entire Congress practice “trickle-down economics”? Second, Bill tells the audience that the way to put this “awful legacy” behind them  is to vote for Hillary Clinton.  Well, since Hillary is running for PRESIDENT it is logical that he is talking about THAT office!  Third, if Bill was truly referring to GOP obstructionism, it was necessary for him to just SAY THAT. Seriously, why would a president be more concerned about the legacy of Congress rather than their own? Is that what voters are looking for in a president…someone who can make a better Congress?  Yeah…Bill, this is just not adding up!

If Bill Clinton was indeed saying something negative about President Obama, it would not be the first time. Indeed, during 2008 when both Hillary Clinton and Barack Obama were both vying for the Democratic presidential nomination, Bill Clinton was understandably very critical of Obama. Of course, back then it was Senator Obama and he did not take Clinton’s attacks on him lying down.

To be fair, every media outlet has emphasized that Hillary Clinton, herself, has had nothing but positive things to say about President Obama and consistently links herself to him. However, I can’t help but view Hillary and Bill as a political dynamic duo playing “Good Cop, Bad Cop” here.  While she’s on the campaign trail saying great things about the office she hopes to inherit, Bill can create some distance between Hillary and President Obama by saying how different they are and how much better she is. Now THAT makes sense!  If elected, it is no secret that Hillary would and should be judged based on her own actions rather than viewed as simply carrying out President Obama’s third term.

Fess up Bill, you were throwing jabs at President Obama and you know it!  To describe President Obama’s last 8 years as an “awful legacy” is just ungracious and distasteful. Despite President Obama privately telling a small group of big Democratic donors to unite behind Hillary Clinton, it appears that Bill Clinton is still a tad bitter about him winning the nomination and presidency 8 years ago.  And Bill…that’s just AWFUL!

Thanks for “listening” to me whine. Hopefully my whining has made you think. If so, tell your friends/family/colleagues that you heard it through the Political Great Whine!
